Finally home from the Slab City Riot, Me and Kyle got a late start on sat afternoon. much later than we had hoped to get going!
We left OC around 3:30 and rode through pitch black mountains with freezing cold temperatures and got lost on the salton ea but finally arrived at the Alb City Riot to find... a riot. A giant bonfire was raging, a band was playing loud, and i was slightly disheartened to find that all the beer had... run out. and kyle and i hadn't stopped to pick any up. we found a spot and set up the tent, and watched a s a 15 foot inferno was started a few campsites over.. ahhhh yes fire. but apparently we arent allowed to have fires, as 5 cop cars rushed to the scene and a fire truck came along to make sure that no one stays warm.
There was an abandoned car in the middle of the camping area and it was repeatedly set on fire 4 times that i could count, throughout the night. each time, the fire truck came and put out the fire... however, the last time it was lit, around 2-3 am, two atv cops rolled in, looked at the fire and said fuck it, and rode off. YAY!!!!
The tacos were great though, the people were cool, and for some reason there were a lot of people who didn't even know what the whole thing was...which is fine but it seemed to bring a whole mess of the wrong crowd in.
Kyle and I got there after most of the partying had happened so we missed out, but we did meet the crazy dude carrying a scorpion around, ran into Allen and his bro, and met some cool cats. I met the heir to the Lego Dynasty (super cute!) and met some travellers who were colorful and friendly. the kind of people you hope to meet on the road.
I regret not having left sooner, but i had to change my tire without a bike jack and had to pack. Duff and Josh were supposed to ride but they both pussed out, duff being the only one with a real excuse, his bike wasn't running. Josh still needs to come up with a rad excuse why he couldnt go.
In all i think these meet ups or riots or bashes are not about the event, but about the ride. its all supposed to be about the ride. and i had a good time riding, kyle was a great dude to share the road with and we got to have a beer int he middle of nowhere huddled over our bikes to keep warm; all while looking at the beautiful night sky. I made a few stops at points along the route, just to take in the scenery and appreciate the beautiful land we live in.
the Slab City Riot was a riot, cops and all and i doubt it will happen again, just because the cops were too involved and too many of "that guy" seemed to show up.
who knows, I do want to thank biltwell for organizing the whole shebang and putting the effort into something this big, those guys always do a great job so high fives a cheers to all the people whoi helped put this thing together!
Ill be putting pictures up and a video shortly =)
